From the technical prospective can anyone list the advantage’s of each M-Bus and Modbus Protocol and suggest the best protocol. But if we read the Modbus protocol document, we can read that “the data can variable size depend on the function code. Databits are mentioned 1 to 8What is the difference between thses 8 data bits and Data mentioned in “Modbus RTU Bit sequence. In single modus frame what could be the maximum data size can be send? Whether this size determined by the Master, how many register it is polling for the data? In the 7 layer OSI model, whether all the Modbus message frame will come under Device ID, Function code, Data and error check will come?
Can explain how it will pass through each layer? I have read and understood that 3. 5 Charater time means 3. If yes, in one of the PDF, I have seen that Modbus ASCII will use 1 Byte for LRC.
But in the ASCII frame decsription, I have seen that 2 Characters mentioned for LRC. If 1 Character is 8 bits, then 2 Character will be 2 Byte? How it is mentioned as 2 characters for LRC, can anyone brief? I merged your 3 posts into one and relocated your questions to the controls section of the site.

My understanding is that M-Bus is a specialized bus for meters that is used primarily in countries other than the US. We have very little exposure to it here. Modbus is a very generic and widely used bus for any number of applications. I am not quite sure if your question is based on a need or just a desire to know more about the two protocols?
But here is alittle starter which may help, this is what I have come to understand of the protocols, so if anyone has better knowledge then please chime in and help me aswell! The data can take a variety of formats and the response can have specific formating parameters, sign, etc. Read and write of data allows items to be switched on the slaves, aswell as read, etc. This protocol is very common and is often used for electricity meters and other control devices with inputs and outputs available. It is a good protocol for retrieving one or two values rapidly, or for a large range of values on a once in a while basis – as the messages are short and therefore quick.
The data usually takes the format of one very long series of information containing all of the meter details and formated readings in one large string. The master simply asks the specific slave for its data package, and the slave responds with everything. No specific items can be requested, and no write values are available. Some manufaturers allow you to modify the items in the data package, however the master still requests and gets a complete set. This protocol can be difficult to handle, as it has a large string, and usually only one or two small pieces of it are required. This kind of sums them up, there is plenty of technical data on both if you go looking. All the best with whatever you are trying to do.
Modbus protocol and one meter is supporting M-Bus protocol. So my question is which is the best solution? M-Bus meter or Modbus meter? I think both are open protocol.
